AP Exam season wrapped up this month, and so did the tennis season! Only 2 books this month 🙁
Stats:
- Read: 2 books
- One 3 star, one 4 star
- Favorite book of May: Love on the Brain
Heart Bones by Colleen Hoover

This is the most “normal” Colleen Hoover book I’ve read so far, which is both a compliment and a critique. The romance between two teenagers bonding over their terrible lives was very much dramatic and John Green-esque, but I didn’t like how the love interest liked the main character only because she was traumatized and not like other girls. This book, just like my feelings on it, was just middle-of-the road. Rating: 3 stars
Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood
Alright, let’s get the frustrating stuff out of the way first: the sometimes forced and always millennial humor, the main character who was somehow oblivious to the love interest’s infatuation for her, and the laughably overdramatic, Scooby-Doo-esque ending. There was also tons of miscommunication thrown in, which was one of the many elements that made this book an almost carbon copy of The Love Hypothesis. Although I could point out many faults, they (mostly) did not deter my enjoyment of the romance. I loved Levi as a love interest, I loved how healthy the relationship was, I loved the commentary on the unfairness of graduate school admissions, and– as much as I like to poke fun at the cheesiness of it– I loved reading about passionate women in the STEM field.
